§ 01 — How it works

The Process

01

Base print

The sheet is first printed with CMYK digital or litho. The base print is then matte laminated — this is what creates the contrast against the gloss UV.

UV artwork

A separate file layer defines where the gloss UV is applied — solid black, matching the exact shape of your logo, text, or graphic element.

UV coating

UV varnish is applied using a screen or plate and cured instantly with UV light. The result is a thick, raised gloss layer with sharp, clean edges.

Trim & finish

Sheets are guillotined to final trim size. The contrast between matte laminate and raised gloss UV creates a premium tactile result without any additional embossing.
§ 02 — File requirements

Specs & Setup

Base print file PDF/X-4, CMYK, 300 dpi, 3mm bleed, fonts embedded.
UV layer file Separate PDF or layer. UV areas as 100% black solid fill only. No gradients or halftones in the UV layer.
Min UV area 3mm minimum coverage area. Very fine lines or small text may not UV cleanly — we'll advise.
Min text size 8pt positive, 10pt reversed-out for clean UV edges.
Base laminate Matte laminate is required as the contrast surface. Gloss-on-gloss UV is possible but less dramatic.
Stock 350gsm+ coated stock recommended. Uncoated stock absorbs UV differently — test print advised.
Bleed 3mm on all sides for base print. UV layer should not extend to bleed edge.
Combining with foil Spot UV and foil can be combined on the same sheet — foil first, then UV in separate areas. Ask us.
